One of the many extraordinary qualities of a moving image stream is that a sense of continuous space and time can be created in the mind of the viewer from images recorded in different spatial locations and at different times.

Consider the techniques these filmmakers use to link adjacent shots.

• Luis Buñuel and Savador Dali Chien Andalou (1925) [excerpt] <YouTube>

• Alan Berliner “Everywhere at Once” (1985)---vimeo
• Dir Bob Fosse, Editor Alan Hein  All That Jazz  (1979) GW T7 Shield

• Christian Marclay Doors (2023)     (GW T7shield)

Assignment 1

Collect and Upload material

• Select 6 – 15 minutes of unedited material: from your archive:

• Recent moving image footage that you shot for a project,  preferably your thesis.
NOT archival footage or extracts from a finished  (edited) piece.
    Fresh unedited camera footage.

• ENTIRE SHOTS: camera on to camera off
• Do not remove anything from the footage you upload
`– include camera setups, audio,  shakes and wobbles, out of focus segments etc.

• Select material you like, not outtakes.

• Minimum: 6 minutes in total; maximum: 15 minutes. At least 5 separate clips.

• We will screen everyone’s footage in  class. Alejandro (the class TA) will upload it so that you all have access
