Assignment No 3 Montage

construct a montage -- a feeling of non-continuous space and time using footage from one location during a single time span.

You may combine this edit with last week's continuity assignment so as to emphasize the distinction.

Due in class October 23rd - 30th

Assignment No. 2 Continuity

Many movies include "scenes": in which time appears continuous and space unified. This is often achieved through assembling shots that were filmed at different times, and even in different places. Build a sense of apparently continuous time and space, using diverse footage shot at noticeably different times and/or in different locations.

First attempt due in class October 9th / October 16th

Post Production 2024. Assignment 1

Select 6 – 15 minutes of unedited material: from your archive:

Recent moving image footage that you shot for a project, preferably your thesis.
NOT archival footage or part of a former (edited) piece. Fresh unedited camera footage. Entire shots: camera on to camera off.
Do not remove anything from the footage you upload – include camera setups, audio, shakes and wobbles, out of focus segments etc.
Select material you like, not outtakes.

Minimum: 6 minutes in total; maximum: 15 minutes. At least 5 separate clips.

We will screen everyone’s footage in class.
Alejandro (the class TA) will upload it so that you all have access _______________________ EDIT Due in class September 18th

Make a piece using only uploaded material in the PP 2023 Class 1 Uploads folder.

Suggested work flow

1. • Download all the footage.
• Name each clip.

2 • View.

3 • Audition audio clips, select

4 • Select parts of clips you might use and put selects together on a single timeline.

• Use footage from at least 3 filmmakers, but DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR OWN FOOTAGE in this exercise.

• Rearrange them.

(Allow repetitions. Add sound clip. Adjust picture. Separate sound and image as desired.)

5. • View your assembly. Pay attention to the context of each shot and the overall flow. Aim for a 5 minute edit

6 • Revise. Add unselected materials if needed.

7 • Repeat steps 5 -7.

Show next week (Sept 25th) for review in class.

In class: Run your edit for your colleagues. Pay attention to their reactions as much as to their words.

Note: revisions are essential to post production
